The World Council of Environmental and Resource Economics Associations
(WCEREA) was tasked by its member associations AAERE, AERE, and EAERE
with planning and executing the 7th World Congress of Environmental
and Resource Economists in 2022. The WCEREA began its work in 2019 and
received proposals from candidate local organizing committees shortly
before the COVID pandemic began in 2020. Since this time, the group
has met monthly to move forward with planning and to assess how the
ongoing pandemic and its associated disruptions affect our ability to
stage an event in 2022.
The continuing uncertainty about the pace of vaccinations, economics
conditions, and when societies will return to normal (and what normal
will look like) have created challenges for making the fiscal and
organizational commitments needed now to hold the event next year.
Given this, and in consultation with the member associations and
candidate local organizers, the WCEREA has decided to postpone the 7th
World Congress until summer 2023.
We are hopeful that this delay will provide the associations and local
organizers with the time and certainty needed to plan a high quality
international conference for 2023. The WCEREA is working on a new
timeline of tasks and plans to formally announce the World Congress
venue this summer.
Thank you for your understanding as all of us continue to navigate
these strange times.
