President's Letter

President's Letter

Greetings from Seoul!

I am honored to serve as the 6th President of Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (AAERE) from 2019 to 2021, which is renamed as Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (AAERE) by General Assembly during the Beijing Congress in 2019.

Now AAERE should be prepared to expand our membership countries from Northeast and Southeast Asias to South Asia and Western Asia as well. The vision and challenge of AAERE is to provide sound academic works and policy advices to enhance sustainable development agenda for the whole Asian region.

Formally founded in 2010, AAERE has served as a scholarly platform for environmental, resource, energy, and climate economists in East Asian region. AAERE has immensely grown not only in terms of its size but also the quality of the papers and its activities. When the First Congress of AAERE was held in Sapporo, Japan, there were 63 papers presented. The Eighth Congress, which was held in Beijing, China, was the site of more than 200 researchers from 90 academic organizations in Asia and other regions. Moreover, AAERE successfully co-organized with AERE and EAERE the 6th World Congress on Environmental and Resource Economists (WCERE) in 2018.

This achievement would not have been possible without the continuous commitment from our members in the last ten years. I also would like to thank the founding members and/or past Presidents, Dr. Ueta, Kazuhiro, Dr. Kim, Il-Chung, Dr. Ma, Zhong, and Dr. Shaw, Daigee for their dedication to AAERE from its establishment.

The 9th Congress of AAERE will be held in Seoul, Korea in August, 2020. I would like to invite all of you, your family and your colleagues to the beautiful city of Seoul. Please remember, without your active participation, AAERE would not be able to accomplish its mission.

Best wishes to you and your family,

Hong, Jong Ho
