2023 AAERE Fellows
(Kyoto University)
(Academia Sinica)
The Fellowship
AAERE fellows are distinguished scholars with a strong research record in the field of environmental and resource economics in Asia and have provided contributions to the development of the Association for at least 10 years.
The goal of this award is to recognize and honour a member of the Association who has made important contribution in the field of environmental and resource economics in Asia and in the organizational development of the Association.
The fellowship does not imply any obligation to the Association, although it is expected that fellows on a voluntary basis will serve as members of the Scientific Committees of the Association’s congresses, as well as actively encourage young environmental and resource economists in the region to join the Association.
Fellow Events
A socializing fellows meeting (e.g., a tea break session or late afternoon drinks) or a substantive meeting (e.g., a specific thematic session), involving other members of the Association is organized during the Association’s congress. A list of AAERE fellows is recorded at the Association website.
Nomination Procedure
Any 5 members from at least 3 different countries in Asia can nominate candidates for the AAERE fellowship, but self-nominations are not allowed. Each nomination has to be done through a concise nomination letter, and can be done anytime up until 1 March each odd year. A nomination letter consists of (1) reasons for nominating a candidate (max. 500 words) which includes five top path breaking publications and (2) CV of the candidate as the appendix.
A candidate should be a member of the Association and meet the qualification criteria (strong research record in the field of environmental and resource economics in Asia and have provided contributions to the development of the Association for at least 10 years), but not an active member of the AAERE Board of Directors nor an AAERE Auditors. A nomination is valid for a maximum four consecutive years. Renomination of the candidates is needed after these four years.
Selection Procedure
A selection committee consisting of five AAERE fellows, from at least 3 different countries when it is possible, is formed approximately the end of each even year (or early of each odd year). The committee meets at least once in March of each odd year and carefully considers all nominations available by 1 March of that year and, with an approval of other AAERE fellows, decides one candidate to become the AAERE new fellow for that year.
A new fellow is announced at the upcoming congress of the Association. Unelected candidates, together with other new nominations received, will be reconsidered in the next two following (two years) selections. After that, their nominations are dropped for the list, unless renominated by 5 members of the Association from at least 3 different countries in Asia.
Selection of a new Fellow is not conducted when the number of Fellows, excluding those who are deceased, has reached more than 5 percent of the total active AAERE members in that year.
Submit nominations using this form by 1 March in odd years to:
AAERE Secretary General (aaere.secretariat3@gmail.com)
Note: In the early period, when the number of AAERE fellows is still less than five, the selection committee will consist of five members of the Board Director. Every two years, these members of the Board Director are replaced by the new AAERE fellows recently elected.
